I arrived in New York seven years ago, from Australia, to work as a Literacy Consultant, to provide Professional Development in literacy to Elementary and Middle School teachers in New York and Pennsylvania. Since then I have been adapting composition books into manageable conferencing books for teachers to use when they collect student reading and writing data. The data they recorded came from reading and writing conferences, observations of student behaviours and habits during reading and writing workshops and discussions that established student goals and plans of action to improve student achievement.
This year I was inspired to share my conferencing book with a greater audience after working with an experienced teacher who is convinced that many other teachers would benefit from using my idea if they were able to get them. We decided to form a small company that would offer the Conferencing book to others. We had the product but no name.
When I first mentioned our idea of making this Conferencing Book to a friend of mine she said we were mad and that it was too hard, it would never work. At the same time my sister in Australia had emailed me this story about a group of tiny frogs. I thought the happenings were too coincidental, and after sharing the story with my business partner, Twodeaffrogs.com was born.
